Disengaging

Whether a cuckolded Law Professor from prestigious Midwestern University, (“Freedom of Speech), Nomadic Gypsies living above a Chicago brothel (“Tinka’s Way) or futuristic citizens of a post-apocalyptic planet Earth, the characters parading through “Disengaging,” are all just trying to sustain love and human ties in a largely indifferent universe. Sometimes they succeed (“Future Sex”), sometimes they fail (“Maria’s Story) and sometimes all they can do is relive the memories and try to understand (“The Plumber” and “The Death of Pauli Spadorcci”). Whatever the case, we may derive hope from their efforts. As long as we keep trying, we know we are alive.

“Disengaging” represents a first attempt at producing a publishable manuscript. Many of these stories illuminate perceived problems with laws and tribunals which deal, officially, with people’s relationship aspirations – particularly when they fail – as observed by the writer who is also a lawyer by profession. Other stories in this collection release ties to our present-day “real” world and imagine future worlds which have been shaped by our present practices and behaviors.
